A rapidly expanding Leek company is using the power of social networking and the Government’s Apprenticeship scheme to increase sales of its adaptive clothing for disabled children and adults.
Rackety’s, based at the Town Yard Business Park in Station Street, exports its clothing worldwide and turned to Skillsbase, the training and development organisation at Leek College, for expertise in IT to exploit new global markets. Business owner Annabel McMahon has taken on IT apprentice Chris Smith to manage her office and snowball the expansion of her company through e-commerce.
Rackety’s proprietor Annabel McMahon said: “I found Chris after I was invited to attend a business breakfast hosted by Skillsbase. Before that, I had no idea that such an opportunity was available to me right here on my own doorstep in Leek.
“I think the apprenticeship scheme is great and offers a real win win situation. I’m getting the up to date knowledge and expertise in IT that I need to develop my business and Chris is getting a really good grounding in all aspects of running a small business.
