• Amanda Sharratt - Hairdressing Apprentice

  Nineteen-year-old Amanda Sharratt decided at an early age that she wanted to be a hairdresser when she left school and has never wavered from her ambition.

  In fact she made an early start on her training while still a student at Leek High Specialist Technology School. At the start of Year 10 Amanda opted to study for a Level 1 NVQ in hairdressing by attending Leek College’s Bodyworks training salon for one day a week while studying for her GCSEs.

  She explained: “The training was only basic, but I learned how to do blow drying and carry out a shampoo and set. While doing the Level 1 training I got a Saturday job at The Salon, in Westwood Road, Leek so, when I left school, I was all set to continue my training full-time.
